A Retrospective Study of Evolving Vehicle Architecture on Pitch and Vertical Kinematics using NHTSA Frontal Barrier Tests.

W. Valdez, M. Valdano, F.J. López-Valdés

70th AAAM Annual Scientific Conference - AAAM 2026, La Ribera (Costa Rica). 20-23 October 2026

English layman's summary:

NHTSA crash data (2010–2025) shows vehicle pitch during frontal impacts varies by fleet architecture. mDTW clustering revealed four distinct kinematic groups, driven by CG height and EV/hybrid layouts. These EV designs reduce or reverse nose-down pitch, challenging current restraint systems.
